Settlements

At any point before the final judgment of the Employment Tribunal your employer may offer you a settlement.  This could be as soon as you lodge a grievance or after you have lodged a claim at the tribunal.  You need to think about what you wish to get out of the process and if what is being offered is fair.  At Leigh Day & Co we can advise you on this.

What could be included in a settlement:

• Compensation for being underpaid in the past (it is unlikely to be the full amount that you are owed)

• Future equality of pay

• An apology

• Your employer adopting equal pay policies in the future
  

Important to remember

If you agree to settle you will be asked to sign an agreement that states you will not make a claim against your employer in the future.  This may cover only claims regarding pay or it could include other types of claim.
